About ShippingLab

Driving maritime innovation through collaboration

ShippingLab is a non-profit collaboration platform dedicated to accelerating innovation in the maritime industry. By bringing together industry leaders, technology developers, shipowners, research institutions, and regulatory bodies, we foster groundbreaking solutions that drive sustainability, efficiency, and safety in shipping.

With a strong focus on digitalization, decarbonisation, and safety, we help shape the future of the maritime sector while strengthening Denmark’s position as a global leader in maritime innovation. At the core of ShippingLab’s work are industry-driven technical projects, where partners collaborate to develop, test, and implement new technologies and solutions that address critical challenges and ensure that Denmark remains a hub for cutting-edge maritime innovation.

Maintaining Denmark’s global leadership in maritime innovation requires a steady inflow of talents. ShippingLab actively supports this agenda by fostering collaboration between industry and research, creating an environment where talent development and cutting-edge innovation go hand in hand. In addition, ShippingLab is actively engaged in recruitment initiatives and together with collaboration partners across Blue Denmark, we are dedicated to attracting the next generation of talents to our exciting sector.

ShippingLab is supported by Innovation Fund Denmark, the Danish Maritime Fund, DS Norden, and the Lauritzen Foundation, alongside co-financing from project partners who invest their own expertise, time, and resources to drive innovation forward.

Governance in ShippingLab

ShippingLab is a platform for collaboration across the entire maritime value chain, and our governance structure reflects this ambition. The steering committee is composed of representatives from the shipping and maritime equipment industries, research institutions, business organisations, and public authorities – ensuring that ShippingLab develops solutions that are both technically ambitious and practically applicable in the industry.

Together with the project director – who anchors the day-to-day coordination and ensures strategic alignment – the committee holds the overall responsibility for guiding ShippingLab’s development. Its members serve as a bridge between their respective organisations and the broader innovation work carried out within ShippingLab.

This wide representation ensures that decisions are made with insight into the full range of industry needs – from developing new technologies to their implementation on board.

This ensures strong alignment between strategic direction and day-to-day development work.
